Introducing Bill Skinner Jewellery!
If you’ve been anywhere near our little Alverstoke Boutique in Gosport recently you’ll have probably seen or heard just how excited Miss Petra is about one of our (many!) new brands that have just been delivered into stock.
We’re really pleased to get a huge selection of absolutely darling pieces from Bill Skinner here at Voluptuous Vintage; the attention to detail and magic feel of the hand-painted jewellery is very much on brand for us. A little bit of luxe, but with bags of character.
Bill studied at Sir John Cass College of art and after graduation began working for a number of companies in London's famous Hatton Garden area. Here he learnt and discovered a gift for pattern making and soon became known as a craftsman and designer of note, working freelance, for amongst others: Asprey, Garrards and Van Cleef and Arpels.
During the 1980s, with his work attracting critical acclaim, Bill began working with Butler and Wilson and the legendary Vivienne Westwood, and so began a long association with the world of fashion jewellery, that continues to this day.
Bill launched his first Bill Skinner range in January 2012. This debut collection was a fittingly distinctive and truly stunning first offering, each piece hand carved by him and his UK studio team; which is still the way the incredible pieces are made to this day!
We’ve had a great deal of trouble picking out pieces for the shop out of such a phenomenal collection. Most of the items we’ve chosen are from Bill’s enamel range; plated with 18ct gold, and hand-painted enamel in truly show-stopping colours and details. We often joke that a certain accessory will have people stopping you to ask where it’s from, and have to say we’ve found that the pieces we’ve snaffled ourselves for our own wardrobes (we left plenty for you, don’t worry!) certainly get that kind of attention.
The jewellery sets are particularly delightful. Quirky, quality pieces that complement each other to perfection; although perfectly comfortable to be worn on their own too.
Animal lovers will be spoiled for choice with pet and animal themed pieces, plus some opulent bugs for a very Art Deco inspired accessory!
Flamingos are always a vintage favourite, and these are a little quirky without being too novelty; just look at that detail.
We’ve gone a bit quackers for the duck pieces especially; the running duck reminds us of those kitsch vintage wall decorations, and the colours are just so charming! Truly unique pieces and a delightful talking point. We’ve used our own as ice-breakers at events, as people are quite fascinated by the magnificent mallards.
The pieces are all presented in a lovely pale pink branded Bill Skinner box, ready to be presented to a loved one… or ready to sit on your own dresser.
Care-wise they’re quite easy to look after; Avoid exposing your jewellery to chemicals such as perfume, household chemicals and hairspray as this could cause discoloration.
As each piece is hand painted there will be small differences to make it unique and give extra character.
Always remember, perfume first, jewellery afterwards! (let it evaporate fully first too)
Store your pretties in the box they came in to protect them best. At the very least, it’ll keep both earrings together!
If the piece you love is sold out, do check back or drop us a line, we may well be planning to restock it if available. :)
