This outrageously charming 1950s Little Black Dress is the find of a lifetime. So timeless, so elegant, so wearable!

The contrasts in texture give it so much interest. First, the gorgeous sweetheart neckline, embellished with metallic studs, faux pearls and diamanté paste in swirls, and the lovely short sleves with subtle notched detail. Then, the flattering shape: it has a waist line centre, but gives the impression of a dropwaist/godet effect. The velvet of the top of the skirt forms into triangular points onto the taffeta lower skirt which features horizontal velvet stripes of different widths. These catch the light: particularly bewitching out on the dance floor. The dress closes with a side metal zip fastening and proudly boasts a union label.

Speaking of the skirt, this one rates very highly on the swish-o-metre. There's the wonderful volume and rustling character of the taffeta, to begin with. It's also very very full, and can accommodate the fluffiest petticoat you can find (or even several at the same time.) You can see our selection of petticoats here.

Love the earrings Miss Darcey is wearing with this beauty - they're vintage too! See if you can snap them up here.
