Seven New Staples from Pretty Retro

Posted by Miss Chloe on

Well, it’s no secret that we love finding new pretties for you to enjoy, and today we’re here to talk about one of our firm favourites, Pretty Retro. We’re all about pieces that can be worn again and again and styled ‘til kingdom come, so we’re excited to share this new collection from Pretty Retro which has versatility at its heart. With block colours, simple lines, and easy wash fabrics, these pieces are sure to become your go-to for every day vintage. Most of these pieces can be styled to fit two or more eras which is great if you love vintage fashion but are trying to be more conscious about the clothes you buy or perhaps don’t have the wardrobe space to match your outfit dreams. This wardrobe may take up no space at all but it definitely makes a big statement!

We have stocked Pretty Retro for some years now as we just love the quality of their pieces and the fact that they try to manufacture their clothing within the EU as much as possible. This new line from Pretty Retro is of the same exceptional quality that we expect from them and is also super versatile, making it the perfect foundation for a capsule wardrobe. I’m sure we’d all love to do full vintage glam every day… but the reality is that we don’t always have time for that. Thankfully these darling dresses, snappy skirts, and bewitching blouses can be easily dressed down for an everyday look with a touch of something special. The dolls have really enjoyed accessorising these pretties to create an array of gorgeous outfits and we’re excited to show you what they’ve come up with. Read on for more on these wonderful wardrobe staples!

Simply styled with some gorgeous 40s style touches, the Sandra 40s Shirt Dress is a wardrobe essential for any retro-loving gal. With 3 functional buttons and a flattering open shirt neckline, the colour matched belt nips your waist in to really emphasise that vintage silhouette. And of course, that flared skirt is hiding some functional pockets. Pair with ankle boots for a casual look, or go glam with some of our pearls and a clutch bag! Miss Emily shows off the Sandra 40s Shirt Dress in both Petrol Blue and Dark Rose and has styled the colour-matched belt in a pretty off-centre bow and a pair of Marika Sandals to complete her look.

We must admit to getting rather excited by the darling pin-up look of the soft yarned Kitty Keyhole Sweater. There are just so many ways to pair with all manner of separates that we fell into a daydream imagining all the outfits we could create with this darling sweater! Heavily inspired by the classic 50s looks, you'll spot that distinctive high collar with dramatic keyhole neckline underneath the hook and eye fastening. Miss Emily shows off the Kitty Keyhole Sweater in both the mustard and sage colourways with our new Pink Lady Capri Pants and some Valentina Flats which add some extra sass to her look. This sweetheart has a cropped length for the most authentic look when paired with high-waisted skirts and trousers and looks great left untucked as Miss Emily shows! This top would also work perfectly with our terrific Tessa Pants, although you may just find yourself popping it on with your jeans and some of our cute Honiara Vintage Sandals. For a super slinky retro vibe, this top looks fabulous with one of our wiggle skirts!

Made from super stretchy black bengaline fabric, which is a buttery blend of viscose, nylon, and spandex, the slinky Pink Lady Capri Pants hug your figure and accentuate your curves in that 'just right' way. Featuring a mid calf crop and true 50s style split seam, these are the perfect foundation for a full 50s get-up, but can equally be dressed down with a flat trainer and your favourite baggy jumper. We think the Pink Lady Capri pants pair perfectly with the Kitty Keyhole sweater for an authentic 50s look. Miss Emily shows the Pink Lady Capris with our darling Kitty Keyhole Sweater in both Mustard and Sage colourways she looks just marvellous.

If it’s sultry secretarial glam that you love, then look no further than the Pattie Pussy Bow Blouse! We just love the flouncy fabric of this blouse and that gorgeous gather at the shoulder. Miss Sam shows off the Pattie, which is a dainty sage hue, with our new Cindy Circle Skirt and a pair of Verona Classic Vegan Flats for a look which can be transformed from day to evening with the addition of some of our glam new Big Metal earrings. For something a little different, we recommend pairing with a straight skirt, some pearls and a fluffy coat to create some serious 1920s glamour puss vibes.

We love the flattering cut of the Barbara Forties Blouse which accentuates the waist whilst still having just a little swish. The dainty blush pink hue of this piece makes it perfect for wearing all year round as it can easily be layered with wools and fluffs, and can just as easily be paired with a headscarf and some high-waisted shorts. With a darling open neckline, ivory effect button-down fastening, and a yoked back, this piece is both functional and stylish in true 1940s fashion. We love this blouse with our Tessa 40s Swing Pants or Retro Sailor Slacks for an authentically vintage look.

Inspired by an original pattern, the Cindy circle Skirt is a lovely full circle skirt that will swish and sway as you go about your daily life, making you feel like the belle of the ball no matter where you are. Available in three unique block colours Petrol Blue, Navy, and Dark Rose), you can mix-and-match with your favourite blouses and cardigans to refresh your wardrobe a little. The deep waistband on this piece gives the illusion of a cinched-in waist and also features some handy belt loops for that 50s utilitarian look. Of course, we know a marvellous item like this just wouldn't be complete without some proper pockets, and the Cindy doesn't disappoint. With deep external pockets, polishing off that elegant retro workday look perfectly. Paired with our darling Kitty Keyhole Sweater and a pair of our Hallstatt Cutaway Suede Pumps, this skirt gives off some major 50s librarian vibes! Miss Sam is pictured wearing the Cindy Circle skirt with both the Pattie Pussy Bow Blouse (above) and the Barbara Forties Blouse (below) - doesn’t she look fantastic?

Last but by no means least, we have the Veronica Polkadot Tea Dress, a darling asymmetrical tea dress that is simply forties-tastic and covered in pretty polka dots! The emerald green hue of this piece and asymmetric cascade wrap skirt give a luxurious feel, whilst the lightweight fabric means that you can enjoy this dress as part of your everyday wardrobe if you wish! With a hidden side zip fastening, you (hopefully) won't need any help to get this beauty on either. Featuring a darling keyhole pussy bow front with three dainty ivory coloured buttons, this dress really flatters your figure in all the right places. The bodice is darted to give a little extra room in the bust whilst still maintaining that beautiful waistline. This emerald gem has capped sleeves, meaning you can wear as-is or easily compliment with a cardigan, like our Vera Classic Organic Cardigan, for when the glorious British weather does its thing and gives you all four seasons in just one day! Miss Emily showcases this effortless glam of this dress, simply paired with the Marika Sandals for some understated luxe.
